Agenda Item

Dave Tripp called the meeting to order at 9:30 am. All present introduced themselves and the organization they represent.

Agenda Item

Lee Duncan explained that students will be mapping out the storm drain locations with GPS units. They have started in Prospector and they will finish in the Silver Springs area once the snow melts. Once mapped, the students will place “no dumping” markers on the drains that go to streams. Other students have begun a water quality monitoring project. They will have some quality assurance conducted by professionals. It will be posted on the website. The website will be made more interactive. It will include water quality data, sites, projects, and contacts for middle school students to use for community service hours.

Agenda Item

Julie Howe reviewed the proposed Water Quality Survey and asked the group for input. The group agreed to add a question on the disposal of prescription meds.

Agenda Item

Greg Larson gave an update on Swaner. They held a dog waste clean-up day on November 19, 2005. Fifteen volunteers collected 150 pounds of dog waste in 3 hours. Greg will write a press release and post it to the website. The 2006 Watershed Festival will be held June 10 at the Fieldhouse. A cross-vane sponsored by High Country Flyfishers was installed in the creek in September.

Agenda Item

Gaylynn Mooney updated the group on the Silver Springs Lake goldfish removal. At an approximate cost of $38,000, over 12,000 pounds of goldfish were removed in an eight day period. So far, the cost has been borne by the homeowners. She has applied for a no interest loan from the EPA. She is considering having an invasive species booth at the Watershed festival in June.

Agenda Item

Neil Burk from UGS spoke on his phosphorus mapping project. He will add a GIS layer to the website. Project is expected to start in the spring and be completed in the fall.

Agenda Item

Lee gave an update (in place of Carl Adams) on the East Canyon Dissolved Oxygen study. East Canyon and Kimball creeks are both meeting standards. Both show improvements over the last 2 years. If improvements continue this year, the creek may be delisted from 303D (impaired streams) list.

Agenda Item

Mike Luers briefed the group on the BOR Water supply study for the Snyderville Basin. The study addressed supply/demand issues for the area for the years 2030 and 2050. The study set aside 1,100 acre feet (6 CFS) for stream flow for East Canyon.

Agenda Item

SBWRD is 85% complete on it’s trunk line project. Completion, except for restoration, is expected in January 2006.

Agenda Item

Theron Miller with DWQ is developing a Nutrient Criteria Development Program. He wants to use the SBWRD as an example of how the plant dilutes the stream of phosphates. Michael Boyle of SBWRD gave a website tour, showing the group how to access the plant’s discharge data. Recycle Utah will sponsor HAZMAT collection days on May 6 and October 7 for residences and small businesses. The Water Festival will be held April 20 or April 27 with Park City Clean Up on April 22 or April 29.

Agenda Item

The next ECWC meeting will be held March 2, a Thursday at 9:30 am in the SBWRD conference room. Dave adjourned the meeting at 11:00 am.
